Our Story
You know how your parents say "Don't talk to strangers?" Liz definitely didn't take that advice while waiting one late night in October 2017. She was waiting for the traffic light to change to a walk symbol on her way back to the dorm after a late night of studying at the college of Engineering. Ben happened to be riding his bike back to the same dorm after a late night of Formula SAE work and also was stopped and the notoriously long street light. The two said hi, started chatting, and have been together ever since. Why Liz decided not to go to her planned churro event that night, or why Ben didn't just ride off on his bike after the light changed...we still aren't sure what to call that other than God's plan.
During the four and a half years Ben and Liz have been dating, they have gone on numerous adventures. Some of their favorites include cross-country flying day trips, drivable distance trips such as silver lake sand dunes (a personal Liz favorite), and weekend kayaking trips on the Huron River. Other weekend and weekday evening shenanigans change based on the season and weather, and anyone who knows Ben knows that he watches the weather closer than any meteoroligist! The two love to mountain bike, attend airport fly-in dinners and airshows, play frisbee golf, go skiing, skating, and more - not to mention Liz practicing her snow white skills feeding animals at Kensington.
Ben & Liz's most recent day trip together was to Phoenix, AZ, where they had plans to hike Camelback Mountain, see the desert botanical gardens, watch the sunset at A-Hill on The University of Arizona's campus, and catch a red-eye flight back to Detroit. The couple ascended the double black diamond side of the mountain (RIP it was the only side open), where at the top, Ben proposed. Luckily, there were a few people sitting nearby to take lots of pictures of the moment, as the tripod was a little short haha! The moment became even more special when the two of them noticed a rainbow in the distance shortly after the proposal, and they knew there were so many blessings being sent on the ground and from above. After waiting four LONG years for Ben to propose, Liz quickly give the ring back to make it safely down the mountain without fear of damaging it, and has rarely taken it off since. The couple is so excited to celebrate with their friends and family in October at their wedding!
